Traveling to MDIBL
The Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory is located in the village of Salisbury Cove, Maine, on the north shore of Mount Desert Island. If you are driving south on Route 3 toward Bar Harbor, turn left onto Old Bar Harbor Road four miles after you drive onto the Island. Coming from the other direction, the turn is six miles west of downtown Bar Harbor.

Travel by Air:
MDIBL is served by two local airports--Bangor International Aiport (BGR) and Hancock County/Bar Harbor Regional Aiport (BHB). US Airways is the only commercial carrier into Bar Harbor airport and provides daily shuttle flights to Boston Logan. Bangor International is approximately 1.25 hours from MDIBL, Bar Harbor Regional is approximately 15 minutes from MDIBL.

Rental car agencies are available at both Bangor and Bar Harbor airports.

At Your Service Taxi and other taxi and car services can provide ground transportation between the airport and the Laboratory.
Bar Harbor-Bangor Shuttle provides a year-round shuttle bus service between Bar Harbor and Bangor (207-479-5911).
Free public transportation is available from late June to mid-October on the Island Explorer Bus System.
