New Investigators - New Investigator Awards

Program Description
New Investigator Awards are available for scientists at all stages of their career who wish to utilize research resources at MDIBL between May 1 and October 31. Awards can be used to defray the cost of lab space, housing, equipment fees and other costs depending on individual needs. Average awards are between $4,000 and $12,000. Larger awards from the Salisbury Cove Research Fund (Thomas H. Maren Foundation) may be available depending on need and potential long term commitment to the Laboratory.

How To Apply
Investigators may apply for a New Investigator award by completing the online application form and submitting the necessary supplementary documents, available online. The due date for applications is January 15, 2008. Complete applications include:

First time NIA applicants:

  • Completed online application form
  • Submitted research summary
  • Complete and up-to-date CV
  • Detailed budget
  • Animal Care and Use Form
  • Pet application (if applicable)

Returning NIA applicants

  • The items above, plus
  • Publications generated from research conducted at MDIBL
  • A pdf file or hard copy of each reprint of MDIBL research published in refereed journals in the past year
  • If applying for a second NIA include research funding plan with a list of planned grant submissions
  • If applying for a third NIA include research funding plan demonstrating substantial progress towards independent funding, significant preliminary data, and track record of relevent publication

Returning Investigators

Program Description
MDIBL rents laboratory space to seasonal investigators with research interests that utilize the unique resources of MDIBL. Rental pricing for seasonal rentals is available in the MDIBL Schedule of Fees. Returning investigators who are eligible for second and third year NIA awards should follow the instructions above. Seasonal rental begins in May and is available through November.

How To Apply
Investigators may apply for space by completing the online application form and submitting all other necessary supplementary documents as an upload in the application form or by email. Do not FAX any application material. The due date for applications is February 1, 2008. Complete applications include:

  • Completed application form
  • Research summary of proposed project
  • Complete and up-to-date CV and bibliography
  • A pdf file or hard copy of each reprint of MDIBL research published in refereed journals in the past year
  • Animal Care and Use Form or Minor Amendment Form if required by review cycle
  • Pet application (if applicable)
