MDIBL Resident Faculty Position

MDIBL invites applications for independent faculty positions at the assistant, associate and full professor level. Candidates should have a research program focused broadly in the areas of regenerative biology, developmental biology or cellular stress biology. Successful candidates will be addressing biological problems at an integrative level and will employ state-of-the-art genomic and molecular approaches in their research using non-mammalian model organisms including genetically and experimentally tractable species such as C. elegans and zebrafish.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or M.D. degree. A strong record of continuous research productivity and either active funding or clearly demonstrated potential for funding are essential. MDIBL faculty are provided at least 80% protected time for development and maintenance of their independent, externally funded research program. Faculty also participate in developing and implementing research training programs at MDIBL for undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, medical fellows, and established scientists. A strong sense of collegiality and collaboration is essential. Start-up packages and salary are highly competitive and commensurate with current rank and experience. Successful candidates will have full-time appointments in the MDIBL Center for Regenerative Biology and Medicine and/or the Morris Center for Environmental Health Sciences, and adjunct appointments in neighboring academic research institutions.

Send cover letter, vitae, detailed research plans, and names and addresses of four references to Dr. Kevin Strange, Director, MDI Biological Laboratory, Box 35, Old Bar Harbor Rd., Salisbury Cove, ME 04672. Electronic applications are welcome: address to kevin.strange@mdibl.org. Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled.

Postdoctoral Associate

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is immediately available at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory to join a research program investigating the molecular basis of limb regeneration. Our group is adopting a comparative functional genomics approach to studying limb regeneration, using non-model basal vertebrates such as sharks and skates in addition to established vertebrate model organisms. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding core of regenerative biologists at the MDIBL Center for Regenerative Biology and Medicine, apply novel genomic resources and techniques to an innovative vertebrate-wide comparative analysis of limb regeneration, and translate studies of lower vertebrates into understanding why amniotes like humans have lost limb regenerative capacity.

A PhD in the life sciences is required. Applicants with strong backgrounds in regenerative/stem cell biology, vertebrate developmental biology, genomics, and/or bioinformatics are especially encouraged to apply.

Compensation includes health benefits, and is commensurate with experience and education. Interested individuals should submit a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references to Dr. Randall Dahn, Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, PO Box 35, Salisbury Cove, Maine 04672 or E-mail: rdahn@mdibl.org. MDIBL is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.
