My research interests lie in the molecular pathobiology of red blood cell disorders, especially in the areas of hemoglobinopathies, iron homeostasis, and the red blood cell cytoskeleton. We are currently attempting to study the comparative biology of key proteins regulating iron uptake and turnover. Our present efforts focus on the iron regulating protein hepcidin and its diverse functions in fish.
