New Laboratory

New Lab Building, July 2008

Dedicated on July 24, 2008, this 15,000 square foot facility is a state of the art LEED certified laboratory and teaching facility used by MDIBL's Center for Marine Functional Genomic Studies scientists and their support staff, student short courses, and seasonal investigators. Year-round investigators housed in the new building include James Coffman, Ph.D., Carolyn Mattingly, Ph.D., and David Towle, Ph.D. Core facilities in the new building include:
- The Martha and Wistar Morris Center for Environment and Human Health
- The Jean and John Boylan Center for Cellular and Molecular Physiology
- The Edwin S. Marks Research Training Laboratory
- MDIBL's Marine DNA Sequencing and Analysis Facility
- A Facility for Biological Imaging
- Comparative Toxicogenomics Database

Edwin S. Marks Research Training Laboratory (Teaching Lab)
The teaching laboratory is home to MDIBL's short courses and is available for seasonal rental as a whole or by bench sections. In addition to bench space, the teaching laboratory has an office workspace, a private office, and a small conference room.
John N. Forrest, Jr., M.D. Conference Room
The second floor conference room is available for all investigators to use. The conference room is equipped with a telephone with teleconferencing ability, data ports and a large whiteboard. Reservations may be made in the main office or by calling extension 100.
Biological Imaging Facility / Confocal Microscopy Suite
The confocal microscopy suite is equipped with two new confocal microscopes, a Zeiss 510 Meta and an Olympus FV1000. Both microscopes are available for use by all investigators and lab groups. In addition to the two microscopes, MDIBL provides two corresponding powerful computers dedicated to image analysis.
Marine DNA Sequencing and Analysis Center

EvaMaria Kinne-Saffran Memorial Library and Reading Room
MDIBL's library has moved to the new laboratory building. The new library houses the Laboratory's book collection, common use computers, comfortable reading chairs, and a "smartboard," a state of the art whiteboard with the ability to capture and digitize diagrams drawn on it. In addition to the hardcopy books, MDIBL provides access to electronic journals for MDIBL investigators and students. For more information about electronic journal resources, please click here. |
