Martha and Wistar Morris Center for Environmental Health Sciences

The overarching goal of the Morris Center is to bring biomedical and marine scientists together to understand how the health of the environment affects human health and well-being. The Program in Marine Conservation and Enviromental Science focuses on understanding the physical environment and the interactions that define local marine ecosystems. MDIBL scientists also work with members of the community to conserve and restore fragile ocean ecosystems that have been damaged by human activity, such as eelgrass beds in Frenchman’s Bay. The Program in Environmental Physiology and Health focuses on understanding the physiological, molecular, and genetic mechanisms organisms use to respond to natural and man-made environmental changes, and how failure of these response mechanisms contributes to disease, aging, and loss of marine biodiversity.
