The DNA Sequencing Core provides a wide array of molecular tools for MDIBL investigators including two ABI 3130 XL sequencers for traditional dideoxy sequencing, Stratagene qPCR machines for SYBR green-based gene expression analysis and two Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzers for RNA and DNA analysis. Microarray services are provided using a GeneMachines OmniGrid Accent arrayer, which is equipped to print up to 30,000 oligos on treated slides. Hybridization reactions can be performed on a BioMicro 4-bay MAUI hybridization mixer, and array visualization is provided on an Axon GenePix 4000B scanner. Four Oligonucleotide arrays are available. The Core uses a Genetix QPix2 robotic colony picker for automated colony selection; the robot can also be used to re-array libraries. The DNA Sequencing Core can also provide Expressed Sequence Tag (EST) sequencing project services. The Core has sequenced over 125,000 ESTs from a variety of organisms.
The DNA Sequencing and Microarray Core is staffed by Christine Smith. orders for oligonucleotide synthesis are coordinated by the Core using an online form. Contact Dr. Charles Wray with questions about Core functionality and usage.
